The story of our historic theater is as colorful as the films we project on the screen. Built for the residents of DeWitt in 1878, the Operahouse has continuously provided entertainment for over 140 years. From traveling shows to silent movies to state-of-the-art digital projection the Operahouse has surpassed the vision of its founders. Read more about our vibrant history here.

We show first-run movies on our single screen which towers over the original stage. While movies are our main attraction, the Operahouse is also a venue for other community and private events such as the DeWitt Noon Lions Travelogues, concerts, speakers, and more. And, we’re not just for DeWitt residents anymore! We have loyal patrons from over 41 different zip codes!

The building is owned by the DeWitt Theater Company, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a local board of directors, while the business is owned by Steven and Michelle Martens. Before Steven and Michelle took over in 2021, the Operahouse was run by the Prichard family for over 30 years.  Michelle grew up going to the movies in DeWitt and has many fond memories that involve the Operahouse.   Steven and Michelle are excited to provide the community with an opportunity to make memories of their own.

The Operahouse mission statement Clean, Cheap, and Courteous” was implemented by the Prichard family in 1986 and the same commitment continues 33 years later. Some say we’re no frills, but we call it charm. You won’t find fancy recliners, reserved seating or 3D movies, but you will find a clean, accessible, affordable and friendly environment to watch your favorite films! We pride ourselves in great customer service and the best popcorn around (#realbutter)!

We are dedicated to continuing the long-standing tradition of bringing entertainment to our patrons. We hope you can join us and make memories of your own. It’s an experience as unforgettable as the films we show!
