We’ve made the dif­fi­cult deci­sion to tem­porar­i­ly close the DeWitt Oper­a­house The­atre begin­ning Mon­day, Jan. 18th and reopen in the spring. We always strive to give our cus­tomers the best pos­si­ble movie-going expe­ri­ence and, as hard as we’ve tried, there are just too many obsta­cles that con­tin­ue to hin­der our business.

After almost a year, we con­tin­ue to face new releas­es being pushed back or going straight to home stream­ing ser­vices. This, along with COVID-19 con­cerns, has great­ly affect­ed our atten­dance. Clos­ing now will give us the best chance to be able to reopen when things improve.

While we won’t be show­ing movies for a few months, we still have some fun events in the works! Feb­ru­ary is “Love Your The­ater Month” and we, along with the DeWitt The­ater Com­pa­ny, still plan on cel­e­brat­ing! Feb­ru­ary 5–7 we will be cel­e­brat­ing our anniver­sary week­end vir­tu­al­ly! There will be a chance to win pass­es and oth­er fun prizes! Valentine’s Day week­end we will be offer­ing Valen­tine Date Night con­ces­sion pack­ages to go! These con­ces­sions pack­ages, which include our amaz­ing pop­corn, will be avail­able for pick-up and deliv­ery! Stay tuned for more details!

The deci­sion to close is sup­port­ed by the DeWitt The­ater Com­pa­ny, the non-prof­it orga­ni­za­tion who owns and main­tains the build­ing. They have gen­er­ous­ly agreed to help us with fixed costs while the busi­ness is closed. We are very grate­ful to have The DeWitt The­ater Com­pa­ny who rec­og­nizes the impor­tance of hav­ing the Oper­a­house in our community.

Classic and Up-to-Date

Spend a night watch­ing a great movie with your friends or fam­i­ly. At DeWitt Oper­a­house The­atre in Dewitt, Iowa, we show movies every Fri­day, Sat­ur­day, and Sun­day at 7 p.m. Mati­nees are shown every Sat­ur­day and Sun­day at 2 p.m. Show­times are sub­ject to change if our movie the­ater is host­ing a spe­cial event. Mati­nee tick­ets are $4.00 and evening tick­ets are $5.00.

The Travelogue

Take a trip around the globe with­out ever leav­ing your seat! The Trav­el­ogue is an edu­ca­tion­al fundrais­er host­ed by the Noon Lions Club, where we fea­ture vaca­tion pho­tos tak­en by area locals of their world­ly adven­tures. This is a great way to know where to plan your next vaca­tion. You can view our Trav­el­ogue every oth­er Tues­day, from Jan­u­ary to May, at 3:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. Dona­tions of $5.00 are accept­ed and are used for com­mu­ni­ty projects.

Concessions

We offer all the clas­sic snacks essen­tial to the movie going expe­ri­ence but it’s any­thing but bor­ing, old pop­corn. We pride our­selves in hav­ing the fresh­est, most fla­vor­ful, Iowa-grown pop­corn around! It’s only made bet­ter topped with the real but­ter we use (we like to say it’s a good source of cal­ci­um). Feel like some­thing sweet? No prob­lem! We have over 30 dif­fer­ent kinds of can­dy. Birthdays, Events, & Special Occasions

The Oper­a­house is a great venue for a vari­ety of events: birth­day par­ties, music or dance recitals, employ­ee work­shops, team build­ing, con­certs, speak­ers, and more! Pri­vate rental is exclu­sive use of the build­ing for your event.
